We are looking to hire a Features Producer with an interest and background in factual storytelling and formats. They will be responsible for producing content for a factual lifestyle and entertainment TV series, along with other formats such as documentaries and corporate videos. 

This position is ideal for someone with experience in producing engaging, impactful stories for digital, TV, and social platforms. They will be journalists with a passion for African storytelling. 

Position Description

• The Features Producer is a talented researcher and storyteller who can write and craft TV content that connects with targeted audiences. They research possible lifestyle and entertainment stories in multiple African countries, write story pitches in an already-established format, script these stories, and conduct pre-interviews with the feature subjects. They will work closely with a Senior Producer to ideate new feature proposals. 

• The Features Producer oversees the production of each feature and owns the creative process. They must be able to articulate their creative vision in their scripts and guide the post-production team in implementing the same. They will follow laid-out editorial standards, processes, and procedures across the life of each production. 

• The Features Producer will work closely with the post-production team to bring scripts to life in the edit. They will oversee the post-production process for each feature to ensure accurate reporting as per approved scripts and that their creative vision translates to the final product. Among other responsibilities, they will schedule edits, coordinate the recording of voiceovers, ensure the implementation of editorial feedback, conduct quality control reviews of the edits, and ensure timely delivery to clients.

• The Features Producer will organize production logistics (including team travel across the East African region) and the production schedule while meeting set deadlines. They may be required to travel to East African territories on occasion. 

• This role is suitable for a gifted storyteller who nurtures relationships across the African continent and collaborates with others to create broadcast-quality content.

Responsibilities: 

• Ability to produce TV and digital videos end-to-end: research, pitching, writing, and overseeing shoot/edits

• Managing a variety of projects/features in multiple territories at once

• Support the Senior Producers in research and assignments

• Work collaboratively with teams in various territories

• Coordinate the post-production and delivery process

Qualifications: 

2+ years of experience in a broadcast news or documentary environment

Degree or Diploma in Journalism, Film Production, Mass Communication or a related field.

Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrable track record in delivering projects for Television and Digital

A passionate, creative storyteller and media creator who is interested in constantly learning, innovating, and experimenting with new technologies and resources

Demonstratable knowledge of lifestyle and entertainment in the Eastern African region

Willingness to travel in the Eastern African region as required

Must have the ability to work independently, solve problems and communicate effectively in fast-paced environments

Must be detailed-oriented and value delivering high-quality work

Ability to multi-task and manage multiple workstreams

Desirable (but not mandatory):

• Knowledge of Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Audition

• Experience with shooting with various camera systems

• Knowledge of filming requirements in East Africa and filming experience in the region

• Media Council of Kenya membership

• Languages other than English, especially French

This position is a 6-month renewable contract and is open to Nairobi-based residents.
